Extreme heat events and wildfires are an alarming reminder that climate change must be a global priority. I believe that climate change is real, and support leadership at the local level whenever possible, including clean energy initiatives, recycling programs, and clean water standards.
Wilsonville’s tax base is a healthy blend of industrial, commercial, and residential. I will look beyond today to support both small business and larger private sector growth, while always respecting the precious agricultural and natural resources of the Willamette Valley.
Wilsonville's residents are fortunate that city leaders recognize the value of public safety to the community, increasing the number of officers in 2021. This includes the addition of a behavioral health resource to assist law enforcement when individuals are experiencing a mental health crisis. I support strategic growth of public safety resources as the city grows and Wilsonville's continuing partnership with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
I know the importance of the relationship between local investment in education, quality schools, and a strong community. With one of the highest graduation rates in Oregon, Wilsonville has shown that excellence in education is achievable and must be a continued priority for city leaders. I support continued investment toward education programs from early childhood education through post secondary education and training.
I believes that every individual in Oregon deserves to have a place to call home. Oregon’s gap in affordable housing exacerbates the homeless crisis. Increasing the availability of mixed income developments, and for those in greatest need, permanent supportive housing and rental assistance, paired with supportive services, are important for the future of Wilsonville.
Wilsonville’s SMART transit system is currently rated among the best in the U.S., I understand that traffic congestion is a reality even in cities like Wilsonville, and dependable infrastructure, transportation and transit will be factors as Wilsonville’s leaders invest in programs to support future growth.
Although public transportation is important, relying solely on this service is not a solution. We have a last mile problem in Wilsonville, and public transportation does not solve this problem. Walking from the nearest bus stop to home with groceries and personal belongings (and in the Oregon rain) just doesn't make sense for our citizens.
The residents of Wilsonville benefit from our public parks, small town feel, and easy accessibility to Portland’s big city amenities. We are fortunate to live in a community where over 90% of the most recent Community Survey respondents rated Wilsonville as an excellent or good place to live. I will work to enhance quality of life for all Wilsonville residents, regardless of walks of life, origin, or ability.
